At Karkhana Samuha, we believe meaningful change in education takes shape both in classrooms and around the systems that support them. This quarter, we saw that in action through project kickoffs that brought together teachers and local governments, hands-on sessions that reconnected educators with playful learning, and national dialogue focused on innovation in education planning and implementation. Across these efforts, we continue to learn with our partners, grounding our work in real experiences while driving broader thinking around what inclusive, locally relevant education interventions look like. This edition shares a few snapshots from that journey.
Kheldai Sikdai Classroom: Project Kickoff
This quarter marked the official launch of the two-year Kheldai Sikdai project, with kickoff events held on June 11 in Paterwa Sugauli Rural Municipality and on June 12 in Chandrapur Municipality. Both events brought together local government representatives, school principals, SMC members, and teachers from six participating schools in both the areas.
As part of the program, teachers joined a short hands-on session to experience playful learning activities themselves. It offered a preview of the kind of teaching the project will support and helped ground the approach in real classroom practice.
One of the key moments was when Ms. Rupa Manandhar, former TeaCoP teacher and now an executive board member of Karkhana Samuha, shared how play-based methods had shaped her own teaching journey. Her story made the project’s goals more relatable and concrete for the educators in the room.
To formalize the partnership, MoUs were signed with six partner schools in each municipality. With that, the groundwork is now in place for the next phase: working closely with teachers to bring playful learning into their classrooms.
The Book Bus at SEEP Mela
From June 10 to 14, the US Embassy’s Book Bus took part in the SEEP Mela 2082 at Kathmandu Metropolitan City. The team welcomed over 500 visitors each day. Youths and students explored the open library and engaged in a Design Challenge session that focused on problem-solving and building prototypes using resources in the Book Bus.
A highlight of the Mela was the visit from HE US Ambassador Dean R. Thompson, who spent time exploring and engaging with participants of the Design Challenge, encouraging more youth participation in skill-building and entrepreneurial initiatives, prompting possible sharing between youths in Nepal and the U.S. His visit gave the team a chance to share their journey and the kinds of conversations the Book Bus sparks in different communities.

Educational Conference on Enabling Innovations in Education Planning & Implementation
Karkhana Samuha is proud to have been one of the strategic partners of the Educational Conference on Enabling Innovations in Education Planning & Implementation, organized by Kathmandu Metropolitan City on June 27–28, 2025. The event aimed to strengthen local capacity for innovative, inclusive, and sustainable approaches in education planning and implementation. Bringing together over a thousand educators, policymakers, and civil society actors, the conference created space for sharing practical strategies, local innovations, and collaborative dialogue.
Our Executive Director, Mr. Sachet Manandhar, co-led a session titled "Making as a Literacy" alongside Mr. Sunoj Das Shrestha and Mr. Surya Gyawali. The major objective of the session was to introduce different forms of literacies that go beyond Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic. As we explore innovation in education, Making allows both educators and learners the tools to experiment, build, and reflect, emphasizing the power of tactile, learner-centered experiences in classrooms. The session focused on helping educators plan and improve education in practical, inclusive, and locally relevant ways.
